Home Education
Virtual Courses with SCVS for Home Education Students
Home Education Overview
As a Home Education student, you have the flexibility to choose your own curriculum and develop a personalized educational plan. However, please note that Home Education students do not receive a diploma from SCVS, FLVS, or SCPS, as Home Education is not a public education program.
For more information on Home Education in Florida, please refer to this [Florida Department of Education Parent Page].
Additional details regarding Home Education with SCPS can be found on our [SCPS Home Education website]. If you are not familiar with Home Education requirements, please be sure to review that webpage carefully.
Home Education Intent Process- Withdraw from Public School
If you wish to withdraw your student and transition to Home Education with SCPS, please follow these steps:
- Contact your student’s current school to initiate the withdrawal process. Be sure to inform them that you are withdrawing to go to Home Education. (Attention FTE: Withdrawal Code W24)
- Complete and submit the Notice of Intent to the Home Education office at SCPS via email [homeschool@scps.k12.fl.us].
- If you are planning to take virtual courses with SCVS as a Home Education student, send a copy of the Notice of Intent to seminolevirtual@scps.k12.fl.us as well as to the Home Education office.
Virtual Courses for Home Education Students
Home Education students may enroll in virtual courses through SCPS, FLVS, or SCVS. However, please note that while these courses will appear on the student's transcript, they will not result in a high school diploma from SCPS, FLVS*, or SCVS unless the student returns to a public school setting.
*FLVS refers to its program as “FLEX,” while SCVS calls it “part-time.” The terminology refers to the mode of enrollment, not the number of courses taken. Neither of these programs will result in a diploma from SCVS or FLVS.
Once you have completed the withdrawal process and submitted the Notice of Intent, you may proceed with adding virtual courses to your student’s profile. You will need to update the school site to “Home Education” in the account settings [how to create a secondary virtual account]. Once approved by the parent or guardian, students will be assigned to instructors within 7 days of the requested start date. The course content and instructors are the same for both part-time and full-time virtual students.
