Summer Driver Education
Driver Education
Seminole County Virtual School (SCVS)
Student Selection & Eligibility
-
Students do not need a learner’s permit to enroll in the course.
-
Students must be eligible for high school enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year and must not have graduated.
Summer Course Delivery Model
Online Coursework
Enrollment remains open throughout the summer. Students may request a start date that best fits their schedule; however, please note that the course typically requires approximately eight (8) weeks to complete.
Behind-the-Wheel Instruction
Upon successful completion of the online coursework, students will receive instructions for scheduling the required two (2) hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with our community partner, the Florida Safety Council.
Students will have 90 days from course completion to finish the behind-the-wheel portion.
Please note: Courses completed through FLVS do not qualify for the behind-the-wheel instructional component.
State Requirements & Certificates
Students who successfully complete the course will:
-
Earn ½ high school elective credit
-
Complete the required Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) training
-
Meet current Florida state requirements for obtaining a learner’s permit
While there is no longer a minimum age requirement to enroll, it is strongly recommended that students be close to age 15, as this aligns with eligibility for earning a learner’s permit and helps ensure readiness for the material.
Cost
All components of the Driver Education program are FREE for current SCPS students.
